The first of these two contrasting pieces presents a disjunct, lonely flute melody enveloped by a background of mysterious, slowly fading sounds. The second, on the other hand, presents a refined, aristocratically syncopated dance with a flowing flute part marked by an abundance of octave leaps. The two pieces are of approximately equal length and, although designed to complement each other, may be played separately. |
